Cleaner School Floors with Buckeye

Cleaner School Floors with Buckeye

Maintaining a clean school is about more than appearance. Studies have shown that student achievement can be negatively or positively impacted by the surrounding school environment. Creating a positive environment that promotes the health and safety of students, staff, and visitors is a key component of the Buckeye Hard Floor Care Program.

Cleaner schools begin from the floor up. The newest addition to Buckeye’s Hard Floor Care Program, Clarion® 25 with Microban® technology, is one of the easiest ways to improve school floor cleanliness. Clarion 25 is the first floor finish to utilize Microban surface modification technology. Microban embeds an EPA registered antimicrobial into the floor finish, preventing bacteria from colonizing and multiplying and adding an extra layer of protection on top of standard cleaning and disinfecting. Using Clarion 25 with Microban, you can have peace of mind while students study in a cleaner environment.

Like all of Buckeye’s floor finishes, Clarion 25 is formulated with Renaissance® Performance Polymers. The research, design, and development done by Renaissance at the molecular level gives Buckeye International the upper hand. With Renaissance, Buckeye can control the characteristics of their floor finishes, making them more durable, clear, and repairable. With floor finishes that do not powder or yellow, Buckeye’s Hard Floor Care Program can help your school create a welcoming environment for all.

Additionally, because of the quality of their floor finishes, Buckeye is the only company in the industry that can provide the customer with a true top scrub and recoat program that reduces product and labor costs. Buckeye’s products require less labor so school staff members can spend time on other important maintenance projects.

The Buckeye Hard Floor Care Program comes with training materials including in-person training and online training for schools and universities. The Buckeye Honors® Program allows staff members to access training materials 24/7 so you can get the most out of the Hard Floor Care Program. With Honors, staff members can watch videos and test themselves to see how much knowledge they gained. Supervisors can assign videos and view test results of each staff member. For more information on how the Buckeye Hard Floor Care Program and the Honors Program can help keep your school cleaner, contact your local Buckeye representative.

What Can Buckeye Floor Finishes Do for Your Floor?

What Can Buckeye Floor Finishes Do for Your Floor?

Floors in any facility can accumulate dirt fast. Foot traffic drags in mud, bacteria, and all kinds of debris. Keeping dirt from getting embedded in your floors can make a huge difference in your facility’s appearance.

At Buckeye, our floor finishes are designed to provide maximum clarity, durability and cleanliness so your facility can look its best. We combine the innovation of Renaissance® Performance Polymers and Microban® technology to keep your floors clean and beautiful.

Renaissance Performance Polymers

Traditionally, floor finish manufacturers purchase polymers from companies who don’t specialize in making floor finishes. In order to maximize the durability and clarity of a floor finish, Buckeye uses Renaissance Performance Polymers. Renaissance designs polymers specifically for Buckeye floor finishes, replicating exact specifications to create consistent results and provide the best value for our customers.

Clarion® 25 with Microban Technology

The latest addition to our Hard Floor Care Program is Clarion 25 with Microban technology. Microban provides continuous antimicrobial product protection for the useful lifetime of the product. When microbes come in contact with the product surface, Microban protection penetrates the cell wall of the microorganism and disrupts the cell, making the microorganism unable to grow and reproduce. In Clarion 25, Microban helps keep floors cleaner, longer at no additional cost.

Clarity and Durability

Many floor finishes powder and yellow over time, giving your floors a dirty appearance no matter how often you clean them. Renaissance Performance Polymers make it possible for Buckeye to provide a floor finish with unmatched clarity and durability. One school Maintenance Director spoke about Clarion 25 floor finish, saying, “You could tell the difference in clarity right away. The floors look much better. We no longer have that yellow buildup everywhere. We have received several compliments on how much better the floors look.”

Buckeye floor finishes dry clear and stay clear to promote a true top scrub and recoat program. Their durability helps extend strip cycles. These features help reduce both product and labor costs. Buckeye’s complete Hard Floor Care Program is designed to provide savings to any facility.

Microban technology in Clarion 25 will provide 24/7 antimicrobial protection. Microban protection can help make floors easier to clean and keep them cleaner, longer.

How does Microban antimicrobial protection work in Clarion 25 floor finish?

Microban 4-Step Graphic

Clarion 25 has been tested using the JIS Z 2801 standard laboratory method and test protocol for antimicrobial activity. This method tests the ability of hard surfaces to inhibit the growth of microorganisms over a 24-hour period of contact.

Microban protection is built-in to Clarion 25 during the manufacturing process, but does not impact the durability and clarity of the floor finish. Like all finishes in Buckeye’s Hard Floor Care Program, Clarion 25 is formulated using Renaissance Performance Polymers. Renaissance designs polymers specifically for Buckeye floor finishes. Because Buckeye manufacturers their own polymers, they control the quality and formulation of each floor finish. This guarantees consistent durability and clarity and also provides cost savings to customers.

The addition of Microban to Clarion 25’s top-of-the-line formulation will provide an additional layer of protection for the useful lifetime of the floor finish without impacting the effectiveness of the product.
Schools, hospitals, and retail facilities that are hoping to reduce the presence of microorganisms on their floors should contact their local Buckeye representative for more information.

*Clarion 25 with Microban antimicrobial technology has been tested for the presence of specific pathogens using JIS Z 2801 methodology and test protocols with a positive result. Normal cleaning practices should be maintained.

Floor Care: Troubleshooting Streaking

Floor Care: Troubleshooting Streaking

The proper floor finish and floor care program can give your facility a clean, welcoming foundation. Having streaky floors will not leave the best first impression. Selecting the right floor finish for your floors is the best way to prevent that streaking.

Buckeye floor finishes are durable and clear. Buckeye’s floor finishes achieve this clarity through Renaissance Performance Polymers. Our competitors buy polymers from outside companies. Buckeye makes their own. Renaissance manufactures polymers specifically for Buckeye’s floor finishes. These polymers can replicate exact specifications for Buckeye floor finishes. The result is consistency and added value for you.

The quality of Buckeye’s floor finishes is unmatched. But, if floor finishes are not applied correctly or properly maintained, streaking can still occur. Here are some simple ways to prevent floor finish streaking:

  1. Do not recoat too soon. Let 20-30 minutes pass between coats, and make sure the finish is dry by touching it with the back of your hand.
  2. Ensure that all contamination sources like furniture polish and mop treatments are cleared from the area. Mop, strip, and rinse the area before recoating.
  3. Use only clean mops and buckets for floor finish application. During the coating process, line your mop buckets with can liners to prevent contamination.
  4. Allow a finish to adjust to room temperature before applying. Do not apply a finish that’s been frozen.
  5. Apply medium to full coats of finish. Avoid thin coats.
  6. Do not use fans or increase direct air flow on a wet finish or it will cause it to flash dry prior to leveling. Allow a minimum of 15 minutes for leveling.

Using the right products is just the start. Buckeye’s Hard Floor Care Program comes with high quality products along with the training you’ll need to strip, coat, and maintain your floors. Buckeye’s Hard Floor Care Program takes into account your floor care goals, with products and training that will allow you to be successful while reducing labor. Allow us to show you how.

Buckeye Floor Care: Floor Finish Selection Methods

Buckeye Floor Care: Floor Finish Selection Methods

Buckeye’s Hard Floor Care Program considers that labor, resources, cost, and expectations are all important factors when choosing your floor care program. They are equally important when selecting which floor finish you will use.

All of Buckeye’s floor finishes provide excellent durability and shine. Depending on your maintenance program, a Buckeye representative can select the right floor finish for you and your staff. Buckeye floor finishes are manufactured with Renaissance Performance Polymers, Buckeye’s exclusive line of polymers. We engineer the polymers that form the core of our finishes, allowing for innovation and quality control. Our control over the characteristics of our floor finishes enables us to create finishes that can fit the needs of nearly any facility.

Selecting a floor finish for your facility is where expectations and reality meet. Buckeye representatives will ask questions that help you decide which floor finish is right for your facility. How often do you burnish your floors? How much shine do you want to see in your floors on a daily basis? What kind of traffic is your floor dealing with on a daily basis?

How often do you burnish?

For facilities that have the equipment and manpower to burnish daily, Castleguard® floor finish may be the right choice. It responds well to burnishing and provides exceptional depth of gloss. It is extremely durable and scuff mark resistant. The performance and durability of Buckeye floor finishes will help extend strip cycles, reducing the time spent on your floors and the cost of labor.

However, many facilities do not have the ability to burnish their floors daily. If your hard floor maintenance program only allows you to burnish over holiday weekends or about once a month, a representative may recommend Clarion® 25 floor finish. Clarion 25 can maintain high gloss with very little maintenance. It is ideal for facilities with limited equipment or manpower.

What kind of traffic is your floor dealing with?

Whether traffic in your facility is heavy or light, Buckeye has a floor finish that will give your floors gloss. If you’re coating a warehouse floor, Proclaim® floor finish may be the right fit. Proclaim is designed to stand up to the wear and tear of forklifts and heavy machinery on concrete floors.

Buckeye offers several other floor finishes, including eco-friendly, economical, and specialty options. For example, facilities that are environmentally conscious may choose Verde® and Verde Ultra, Buckeye’s Green Seal certified floor finishes. They each meet the most stringent environmental standards without sacrificing product performance.

What is Renaissance Performance Polymers?

What is Renaissance Performance Polymers?

Renaissance® Performance Polymers is Buckeye’s exclusive line of floor finish polymers. Buckeye is the only floor finish company that researches, creates, and manufactures our own floor finish polymers. This means our floor finishes are designed at the molecular level, giving us control over the resulting characteristics.

Because of Renaissance Performance Polymers, Buckeye is able to provide floor finishes with better value and quality than every other finish on the market.

What Does Renaissance Mean for Buckeye Floor Finishes?

By manufacturing our own polymers, we get to choose the characteristics of our floor finishes. We know high gloss and shine are critical to the appearance of your facility’s floors. Our floor finishes are formulated with the highest quality polymers, ensuring that their shine and depth of gloss are second to none.

Some outdated floor finishes darken and yellow over time, making your floors look dated. These finishes can also powder and require additional cleanup. Buckeye floor finishes are durable and can extend your strip cycles. They are non-yellowing, drying clear and staying clear to promote a “true” top scrub and recoat program.

How Does Renaissance Impact You?

Buckeye’s goal is to provide solutions for customers’ needs. Through our polymer research, we have been able to develop better, longer-lasting floor finishes for your facility. Our long-lasting finishes can extend your strip cycles and reduce your labor costs.

With Renaissance, we are the source of the raw material and share the overall value and cost savings with you.

Buckeye’s commitment to providing better products extends to providing products that have a minimum impact on the environment and do not contain potentially hazardous ingredients like butyl, solvents, and alcohol bases. In combination with Buckeye’s patented Liquescent® technology, Renaissance Performance Polymers enable us to manufacture high performance products and adhere to our principle of human health safety.

Our polymers are also manufactured in a state-of-the-art polymer production facility. Every step is taken to protect our employees and the environment. In fact, governmental agencies have rated our VOC emissions as “de minimis” (too small or insignificant to be considered).

Renaissance enables Buckeye to manufacture the highest quality products that provide more value, and are less hazardous for your facility and your facility’s employees.

Buckeye Floor Stripper Selection

Buckeye Floor Stripper Selection

There are many factors that go into the selection of a floor stripper for your facility. What kind of equipment are you planning to use? What type of flooring are you going to strip? Are you stripping a flat surface? What are your time constraints?

All Buckeye floor strippers are formulated with patented Liquescent® technology to remove floor finish in one application without harsh odors. Liquescent technology has enabled Buckeye to manufacture high performance products while adhering to our principle of human health and safety.

Buckeye floor strippers are designed to strip floors in nearly any facility. When evaluating your hard floor care needs, Buckeye representatives take all of the above questions and more into consideration. Here are some defining features of Buckeye floor strippers that may help in deciding which one is right for your facility:

RipSaw®

RipSaw is Buckeye’s everyday stripper. It’s fast acting with a reduced dwell time, helping you get the job done quicker. It also comes with a built-in Automatic Dilution Indicator® (ADI) for ease of use. When diluting the product, the solution turns cloudy, indicating you have achieved the desired dilution rate without “over-using” your floor stripper. It can strip floor finishes from any hard surface in one application.

Juggernaut®

Juggernaut is Buckeye’s Ultimate Cold-Water Stripper. It is Buckeye’s go-to product for difficult floor finish. Juggernaut can safely and efficiently strip heavily burnished hard floors including tile, concrete, or masonry. It is designed to work in one application, reducing the amount of time and labor put in to stripping your floors.

Specialty Floor Strippers

Some facilities have more unique needs. For those that are environmentally conscious, Buckeye offers Penetrate™. Penetrate is non-DOT corrosive, and Green Seal™ certified. Buckeye’s S.W.A.T.® NA works just as well as any other floor stripper, but without ammonia. For workers, this means no noxious vapors and a more pleasant scent to provide a better working environment.

Facilities with flooring made of rubber, linoleum, and Marmoleum are in need of a pH sensitive floor stripper. For that, Buckeye offers Liquid Shovel®. Revelation® is Buckeye’s more versatile floor stripper. It is usable on all industrial flooring including resilient tile, terrazzo, concrete, rubber, etc. It effectively strips acrylic seals, water-based urethanes, and polymer floor finishes.

Buckeye also has an aerosol can baseboard stripping gel, Base Hit™. It sticks to vertical surfaces and is specifically designed to remove floor finish buildup and heavy soils from baseboards as well as resilient tile and hard surface flooring.

But, floor stripper selection is only one component of Buckeye’s Hard Floor Care Program. Buckeye’s Hard Floor Care Program includes a variety of floor strippers and finishes designed to keep any facility floor protected and sparkling. These products come with hands-on training from Buckeye representatives. The Hard Floor Care Program gives your staff the proper products and training needed to keep your facility looking its best.

Ice Melt, Snow, and Your Hard Floors

Ice Melt, Snow, and Your Hard Floors

Winter has come and with it comes snow, ice, and slippery floors. Most facilities use ice melt and matting to make their entrances safer to navigate. However, despite matting, the snow, water, and ice melt can still find its way onto your facility’s hard floors.

Ice melt can be particularly difficult to remove from your floors. Natural soap products don’t contain the chemical ingredients to chemically bind ice melt salts in solution. Often, they will redeposit salts onto the floor during the cleaning process.

Buckeye has carefully designed its products to avoid this problem. Our Eco® Proportioning Program includes several products that effectively remove dirt and soils from floors. Eco pH Neutral Cleaner E31, Eco Floor Cleaner Fragrance-Free E32, and Eco Floor Cleaner E33 can all be diluted for use in a mop bucket or autoscrubber. They are formulated to work in winter’s tough conditions, dissolving and chemically suspending ice melt salts to keep them from re-depositing on the floor while mopping or autoscrubbing. Each product is also Green Seal certified, making them safer for the environment and the employees who use them.

E31, E32, and E33 are all part of the Eco Proportioning Program. This program has everything you need to maintain a clean facility, including cleaners, disinfectants, sanitizers, and deodorizers. Each product is packaged in a 1.25 L hermetically sealed bag and automatically diluted with an Eco proportioning system, virtually eliminating all errors that come with diluting products by hand. The Eco program and its products help you tackle difficult problems, like removing ice melt from your floors, with ease.

Some other helpful tips for cleaning away the black and white sludge on your facility’s floors include:

  1. Adjust how you mop and autoscrub floors. Begin mopping or autoscrubbing away from entrances and work towards them.
  2. Change your cleaning solution often when mopping so that it is not saturated with ice melt salts. You don’t want to mop over a previously clean area with a soiled mop.

Buckeye programs like the Eco Proportioning Program come with specialized training and representatives that help you tackle complex issues including how to best take care of your hard floors during the winter months. To learn more about Buckeye and the Eco Proportioning Program, contact your local Buckeye representative.
