Door to Floor: 3 Levels of Protection

Door to Floor: 3 Levels of Protection

Now more than ever, it’s important to keep your facilities cleaner and safer for guests and employees with the proper programs and procedures. As facilities reopen during the COVID-19 pandemic, Buckeye can help protect visitors and employees.

Level 1: Hand Hygiene

Protect yourself with the Symmetry® Hand Hygiene Program.

Because the CDC states that handwashing is one of the best ways you can help reduce the spread of germs, implementing a hand hygiene program is an important step in protecting your facility and the people who visit.

The Symmetry Hand Hygiene Program provides tools that promote education, awareness, and motivation to practice hand hygiene. Symmetry understands the importance of hand hygiene acceptance and manufactures products that people want to use in a reliable dispensing system. Symmetry hand washes and hand sanitizers are gentle on hands and leave no sticky residue behind.

The FDA is addressing potential safety concerns related to products that are not in line with its policy standards and others being marketed with unproven COVID-19 related claims. The FDA cautions consumers to be vigilant of products sold with misleading, unproven claims. Symmetry is committed to supplying superior hand sanitizers manufactured in an FDA registered and ISO certified facility. Our products contain only FDA compliant ethanol and perform to the highest standards.

Level 2: Cleaning and Disinfecting

Frequently protect your facility with the Eco® Proportioning Program.

The CDC recommends cleaning and disinfecting frequently touched objects and surfaces following product label directions and proper dwell times. Buckeye’s Eco Proportioning Program is fully integrated with effective, hermetically sealed products, including EPA emerging pathogen disinfectants for any application.

Eco Disinfectants Buckeye Eco One-Step Disinfectant/Deodorizer/Cleaner E22 Buckeye Eco Neutral Disinfectant E23 S23

Manufactured with proprietary technology, the Buckeye Eco proportioning system’s innovative design and Eco super concentrated products produce maximum efficiency.

Level 3: Microban® Antimicrobial Product Protection

Continually protect your facility with Clarion® 25 Microban Antimicrobial Floor Finish and Arena® 300 Microban Antimicrobial Wood Floor Coating.

Microban technology is built-in to these products during the manufacturing process. When microbes come in contact with the product surface, Microban technology penetrates the cell wall of the microorganism and disrupts the cell, making the microorganism unable to grow and reproduce. Microban technology works 24/7 and is EPA registered.

Buckeye provides customized social distancing signage for entrances, floors, walls, carts, and registers as well as training for all products and programs to ensure proper procedures are in place to keep facilities clean and ready for visitors.

Contact your local Buckeye representative for more information about Buckeye’s maintenance programs.

Prepare for Reopening During COVID-19

Prepare for Reopening During COVID-19

Restaurants, retail stores, and schools are preparing to reopen during COVID-19 and the CDC urges these facilities to develop and implement a plan to reduce the risk of exposure.

Following CDC protocols, Buckeye programs can help keep these facilities on the right track. With cleaning products, disinfectants, hand sanitizers and more, Buckeye programs have the necessary tools for visitor well-being.

Complete Hand Hygiene Program

The Symmetry® Hand Hygiene Program offers a complete line of hand hygiene products. Symmetry’s high quality, low cost products are less likely to contribute to dry hands and leave no sticky residue behind.

In addition to high quality products and reliable dispensing systems, Symmetry offers education and awareness materials, and behavior modification tools. Education and awareness materials include wall charts, posters, product literature, and handwashing videos that focus on the “HOW” and “WHY” or proper hand hygiene. The Symmetry Behavior Modification System uses customizable placards, visual lighting cues, and more to capture attention in the moment and inspire an immediate hand hygiene event.

Enhanced Cleaning and Disinfecting Program

Frequently clean and disinfect high touch objects, surfaces and areas using our EPA recognized emerging pathogen disinfectants approved for use during COVID-19. Our Eco Proportioning Program is fully integrated with effective, hermetically sealed products, including EPA emerging pathogen disinfectants, for any application.

The complete Eco® Proportioning Program allows you to consider space availability, how many products you will dilute, cost, and whether or not your products need additional security. Eco products are diluted automatically through Eco proportioning systems, ensuring their effectiveness and preventing product waste.

Microban® Antimicrobial Product Floor Protection

A recent study conducted in Intensive Care Units (ICUs) and a COVID-19 General Ward (GW) at Huoshenshan Hospital in Wuhan, China confirmed that the virus was widely distributed on floors, computer mice, trash cans, and sickbed handrails. Another study found that bacteria and fungi can live on soles of shoes for up to five days.

Clarion® 25 Microban Antimicrobial Floor Finish and Arena® 300 Microban Antimicrobial Wood Floor Coating can provide an added level of 24/7 proactive protection against damaging microbes. Though Microban is not a substitute for normal cleaning practices, Microban protection continuously fights the growth of microbes, and makes floors easier to clean - keeping floors cleaner, longer at no additional cost to you.

Training Programs

Buckeye’s training programs provide step-by-step manuals and customized wall charts to accompany in-depth, in-person training. Provide your staff with the proper products and procedures to meet the needs of your facility.

Social Distancing Decals

In order to reopen, facilities need to maintain safe daily habits in order to reduce the risk of exposure. This includes reminding patrons to wear face coverings, practice social distancing, and avoid public places when sick. Buckeye can help bring awareness to the people in your facility with social distancing signage at entrances, on floors, on walls, on carts, and at registers.

Arena 300 Microban Antimicrobial Wood Floor Coating

Arena 300 Microban Antimicrobial Wood Floor Coating

In 2018, Buckeye’s Clarion® 25 floor finish became the first floor finish to utilize Microban® antimicrobial product protection to help inhibit the growth of bacteria. Buckeye has now added Microban antimicrobial product protection to Arena® 300 Microban Antimicrobial Wood Floor Coating.

Arena 300 is a 100% urethane, water-based OMU (oil-modified urethane) wood floor coating with exceptional durability and shine. Its mild scent, superior film hardness, quick dry time, and scuff and scratch resistance make it easy to use and the preferred choice for wood floors.

As schools prepare to reopen in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic, keeping school facilities clean is more important than ever. With the addition of Microban technology, Arena 300 will keep wood floors looking their best and keep them cleaner, longer at no additional cost. Microban antimicrobial product protection helps inhibit the growth of bacteria, providing continuous protection for the useful lifetime of Arena 300. When microbes come in contact with the product surface, Microban protection penetrates the cell wall of the microorganism and disrupts the cell, making the organism unable to grow or reproduce.

Part of the Reflections Wood Floor Care Program, Arena 300 can deliver years of beauty, performance, safety, and durability. The complete Reflections program includes wood floor maintenance products and training coating and maintaining wood floors. Reflections Wood Floor Care Training

Reflections Wood Floor Care Training

Caring for wood floors requires time and expertise that most facilities don’t have. This is why many schools hire contractors to recoat and care for their gym floors. Because wood floors are among the most impressive features in any facility, staff members don’t want to risk destroying their beauty by attempting to recoat the floors in-house. With the proper products and training, facility managers don’t need to be concerned. The Reflections® Wood Floor Program provides products and trains staff on prepping, scrubbing, and recoating wood floors.

Oftentimes, hiring a contractor can be expensive. Facilities looking to cut down on costs while maintaining the quality of their wood floors can take advantage of the in-person, online, and video training options provided by Reflections. Reflections training includes procedures for restorative, interim, and routine wood floor care.

In addition to in-person training, staff members have access to wall charts, literature, and videos that can guide them through each maintenance process. The Honors® Custodial Training Program for Schools and Universities can also help guide staff members through each process with videos, PowerPoints, and literature. Honors is available 24/7 online, and comes with additional features like tests and reporting. Supervisors can track the progress of each staff member with reporting on test scores and the amount of video each staff member has watched.

Since Reflections procedures work with equipment most facilities already have, there is no added cost for new equipment. The training provided by the Reflections program can make recoating your wood floors easier and, in some cases, faster. With Reflections water-based wood floor coatings, staff no longer has to wait for summer to recoat gym floors. The quick dry-times of water-based coatings mean school staff can recoat during winter or spring break, making wood floor care more convenient.

Reflections products also offer some of the lowest VOCs (volatile organic compounds) in the industry, improving the indoor air quality for employees as they work. Reflections has also removed hazardous crosslinkers from their coatings. These crosslinkers can be harmful to the respiratory health of employees and visitors. With its products and training, Reflections has made recoating wood floors quick, easy, and safer for employees.

Improving Indoor Air Quality While Recoating Your Gym Floors

Improving Indoor Air Quality While Recoating Your Gym Floors

Improving the indoor air quality while recoating your gym floors can be a challenge. Recoating your school’s gym floors takes time. Oil-based wood floor coatings can take up to two weeks to fully cure. During the application and drying process, wood floor coatings can emit VOCs (Volatile Organic Compounds), odorous gases that can sometimes be dangerous to the health of employees or others in your school.

Limiting the amount of VOCs that are released can make a difference in the time it takes to recoat your floors. Even more importantly, it’s better for the health of employees and visitors. Reflections Coliseum® oil-modified wood urethanes have limited VOCs and Arena® water-based urethanes have some of the lowest VOC ratings of any wood floor coatings in North America. Because Arena coatings are water-based and emit less VOCs, their dry time is faster, allowing for play on gym floors only 48 hours after application.

There are other advantages to using Reflections wood floor coatings. Many well performing water-based products require the addition of a Polyfunctional Aziridine Crosslinker. This raw material is used to crosslink products for durability. However, it comes with many health concerns, including allergic reaction of the skin, lungs, and heart. With each exposure, health concerns only become greater. Reflections wood floor coatings don’t use hazardous crosslinkers, helping limit employee exposure to hazardous materials.

Preparation methods can also contribute to poor indoor air quality. Dry prepping floors can create dust that lingers in the air. If your gym floor is older, the Reflection wet screening prep method can eliminate dust. The Reflections® Wood Floor Program can help you decide the best preparation method for your floors that keeps your floors looking their best and considers the health of visitors and staff.

The Reflections Wood Floor Program prioritizes manufacturing safer-to-use products that exceed the strict environmental rules that regulate wood floor coatings. The complete program provides top-of-the-line products and procedures that keep gym floors shiny and durable without compromising employee health and safety. Reflections: Coating New Wood Floors

Reflections: Coating New Wood Floors

Newly installed wood floors must be handled with care. New wood floors are far more susceptible to water damage than their older counterparts. Because newer wood floors have not had time to fill with polymer protection, the wood absorbs water more easily. This water absorption can lead to cupping or warping. Due to seasonal fluctuation and acclimation it is recommended to dry screen and use solvent-based oil modified urethanes for the first two, three or four recoats because of its flexibility. Using water-based coatings too soon can potentially cause boards to bond together to create one large panel of wood. This is called panelization.

The Reflections® Wood Floor Program offers oil-based wood floor coatings that are designed to give your gym floors excellent durability and brilliant shine. Reflections can extend the life of your gym floors, providing years of beauty, performance, safety, and durability.

Reflections oil-based wood floor coatings include Coliseum® 450, Coliseum® 350, Coliseum® 275, and Super 40 Gym Coating. Each coating is extremely durable and can achieve high gloss with one to two coats. Reflections has VOC (volatile organic compounds) compliant oil-based wood floor coatings with less harsh odors. They are also not as viscous making them easier to apply.

Age isn’t the only factor in choosing a wood floor coating. Not all new gym floors are the same and other factors such as time and equipment availability play a part in the recoating process. The care put into a new gym floor can last for the entire lifetime of a floor. Reflections experts understand each component of the environment of your gym. Reflections provides the products and training that fit your facility and its staff members best. Because coating your gym floors is not the only thing needed to maintain them, Reflections has all the products you’ll need for daily and long-term maintenance.

Ensure your new gym floor is well taken care of with Reflections training. This includes in-person training from Buckeye representatives as well as online training through the Buckeye Honors® Training Program. The Honors Custodial Training Program for schools and universities is available 24/7 with videos, PowerPoints, wall charts, and product literature to help staff members with wood floor care and more. Supervisors have the ability to assign videos and tests on various maintenance tasks to staff members. They can then view the results to ensure each staff member is up-to-date on maintenance procedures.

Coating Old Wood Floors

Coating Old Wood Floors

The age of your facility’s wood floor has a significant influence on the kind of maintenance required to maintain it. For newer wood floors, coating with oil-based wood floor coatings is the only option. A newer wood floor is more porous and likely to absorb water. However, over time wood floors become less porous and less absorbent. Because of this, coating old wood floors with water-based wood floor coatings becomes the better option.

Benefits of Water-Based Wood Floor Coatings

Water-based wood floor coatings have fewer VOCs, creating a better working environment for staff members coating the wood floors. For schools recoating gym floors, the fast-drying times make it possible to recoat over a long winter or spring break. There’s no need to wait for summer to get the job done.

Most importantly, because your wood floor has had years to build up polymer protection, water-based coatings won’t cause any damage to your floors. They can also keep wood floors shiny and ready for foot traffic.

Reflections Water-Based Wood Floor Coatings

Reflections Arena® water-based wood floor coatings are the best water-based wood floor coatings for any aged wood floor. Arena 300 allows sports play on gym floors only 48 hours after application. With Arena, staff members can wet-prep and coat floors on the same day. The wet screening prep method is recommended for older wood floors as it leaves behind no dust and provides good abrasion for adhesion. If you apply an oil-based wood floor coating after wet prepping the floor, you must wait overnight before coating. Water-based wood floor coatings can be applied in a much shorter window of time. They also have quick cure times and respond well to burnishing.

Their quick-drying times are coupled with low VOCs. In fact, Arena 300 is one of the most environmentally friendly coatings in the industry, with an NFPA (National Fire Protection Association) rating of 0 for Health, Fire, and Reactivity.

Reflections Program

Coating your wood floors takes care and consideration, but it doesn’t have to be complicated and difficult. The Reflections® Wood Floor Program comes with all the training and products needed to make it possible to coat your wood floors in house. Reflections representatives provide in-person expertise and training to help your staff complete the job. Reflections: Oil-Based Wood Floor Coatings

Reflections: Oil-Based Wood Floor Coatings

Wood floors are susceptible to water damage, especially if they are newly installed. Because new wood floors have not had time to fill with polymer protection, the wood will easily absorb water. Water can cause the boards to warp, which is why for the first two to three years of a wood floor’s life, oil-based wood floor coatings are the best option.

The Reflections® Wood Floor Program provides oil-based wood floor coatings that are extremely durable and achieve high gloss after only one or two coats. They are VOC (volatile organic compounds) compliant and hold up well to scuffing and scratching. Traditional oil-based wood floor coatings are usually accompanied by harsh odors. Reflections oil-based wood floor coatings have less harsh odors, are less viscous, and are easy to apply. To cater to the needs of all facility types, Reflections provides a variety of oil-based coatings. Coating options include Coliseum® 450, Coliseum® 350, Coliseum® 275, and Larry’s Super 40 Gym Coating.

A lot of factors go into coating selection, including budget, facility location, and overall maintenance program. The choices and technical questions can seem endless when it comes to recoating your gym floors. This is why many facilities use contractors when it comes time to recoat. It may seem as if facility staff members are not qualified to get the job done.

The Reflections Wood Floor Program is designed with those concerns in mind. Recoating a school’s gym floor in-house can result in savings of 35% or more. Reflections representatives have the knowledge and expertise to educate the staff of any facility on products and procedures. Buckeye’s local distributors are trained to overcome any concerns surrounding your school’s gym. Backed up with Buckeye’s dedicated corporate sales team and top-of-the-line research department, Reflections is the perfect solution for any wood floor.

Local representatives give your staff hands-on training, answering questions and demonstrating techniques that make it possible to get the job done quickly and easily. In-person training is coupled with online resources like the Honors® Custodial Training Program for Schools and Universities. Honors provides wall charts, PowerPoint presentations, training manuals, and product literature as well as step-by-step videos meant to walk staff members through the recoating process. Honors’ online tests ensure staff members are prepared and refreshed on procedures before big projects like recoating your gym floors.

Recoating your gym floors can seem like a monumental task. Whether your wood floor is new or old, Reflections has the wood floor coating to fit your needs and the expertise to answer your questions. Contact your local Buckeye representative to see which coating is right for your facility.

Reflections: Water-Based Wood Floor Coatings

Reflections: Water-Based Wood Floor Coatings

The Reflections® Wood Floor Program is designed to protect wood floors of all ages. Exposure to water can negatively impact newer wood floors. However, for older wood floors, Reflections provides water-based wood floor coatings that come with added benefits.

Once you have had your wood floor for 2-3 years and the boards have had time to fill with polymer protection, graduating to a water-based wood floor coating may be the best option. After 2-3 years, the wood is no longer at risk of absorbing too much water and warping.

Reflections’ Arena® water-based wood floor coatings can speed up the recoating process. They are quick-drying, allowing sports play only 48 hours after application. Reflections Arena 300 and Arena 50 emit less volatile organic compounds (VOCs) than oil-based urethanes. VOCs are odorous gases that can sometimes be dangerous to the health of employees or others in your facility.

Arena water-based wood floor coatings enable you to wet-prep and coat your floors in the same day. They have quick cure times and respond well to burnishing. They are not flammable and Arena 300 is one of the most environmentally friendly coatings in the industry, with an NFPA (National Fire Protection Association) rating of 0 for Health, Fire, and Reactivity.

With fast drying times and less VOCs, water-based coatings are the perfect fit for any facility that needs a quick turnaround. For schools, Arena wood floor coatings make it possible to recoat gym floors throughout the school year.

The Reflections Wood Floor Program comes with all the training needed for your staff to finish the job quickly and accurately. Contact your local Buckeye representative to find out if water-based wood floor coatings are the right choice for your facility.
